Welcome !

Boy Scout Troop 516 serves Woodridge, IL and surrounding communities. We meet at Willow Creek Elementary School on Friday evenings during the school year & Prince of Peace Lutheran Church when the school is unavailable & during the summer months. We are active throughout the entire year with 12 months of camping, hiking and other activities.

We use the patrol method and are a youth run organization. The role of the adults in the Troop is one of helping the Scouts to learn leadership; to take responsibility and to plan then execute their own activities. Our supervision provides the Safe Scouting for the Scouts while allowing them enough room to learn from their own successes and mistakes. We see Scouting as an ideal program for helping boys learn to become the sort of men that others will respect and look up to.

West Suburban Community Pantry Service Project

Posted on Apr 20 2018 - 6:11am
As we know, Troop 516 is quick to volunteer to provide community service!
The West Suburban Community Pantry (WSCP), located in Woodridge, is asking for our help with an upcoming community food drive.  Since 1992, the WSCP has served as an emergency food source.  They provide food for the hungry, educate the community about existing needs, support advocacy efforts for the hungry, encourage volunteerism, and offer supportive programming.

Colin Mason Eagle Project

Posted on Apr 20 2018 - 5:57am

Hello Troop 516,

I'm currently working on my Eagle Scout Project with the Woodridge Park District. I am building Native Bee Nest Boxes and installing them across several Woodridge Parks. The sites are yet to be determined as The Woodridge Park District is still finalizing the locations. I will send out another email when this information is determined. The nest will provide a home for bees to help pollinate flowers throughout the parks. I have a built a prototype and it has been approved by The Woodridge Park District.

Prince of Peace Church Clean-up

Posted on Apr 19 2018 - 2:51pm
Troop 516 has another opportunity to provide service to POP Church upcoming in April.
Prince of Peace Church has scheduled their annual “Spring Clean-Up” project to be held on Sunday, April 22 (Earth Day).  This project will follow the POP 10AM church service, starting at approximately 11:30AM.  As I understand, it will involve clean-up both outside and inside the church.  The church will be serving pizza to those who participate.
To assign tasks and to know how much pizza to order, the church requests to know in advance (by Sunday April 15) how many people from the troop will volunteer to participate (scouts and adults).  They also request to know the ages of the scouts who plan to participate.  In addition, they are interested to know who among the volunteers are able to operate power equipment (such as weed-whackers and trimmers) and who among the volunteers have commercial cleaning skills (such as window washing skills).
To volunteer - Please send the following information to Nancy Chapdelaine (nancychapdelaine@yahoo.com) by Sunday April 15 for each participant:
Adult or Scout:
Age if Scout:
Able to operate power equipment (yes or no):
Commercial cleaning skills (if any):
There is a possibility that this POP Spring Clean-Up project could be postponed due to weather.  I'll inform the troop via email if this project is postponed.  The church has scheduled Sunday April 29 as the “rain date" for this project.  As Troop 516 will be camping April 27-29  (Grant's Pilgrimage), we will not participate in this POP Spring Clean-Up project if it is not held on April 22.
Please let me know if you have any questions about this service opportunity.
Thank you,
Nancy Chapdelaine

Troop Facebook Page

Posted on Apr 13 2018 - 3:38pm

As everyone should be aware, our troop does have a Troop Facebook page where individuals can post scouting related items.  The Facebook page is Boy Scouts Troop 516.  It is a closed page which is only for families and leaders of the troop.  This is a safety reason since we do post pictures from activities for the benefit of our members.  Any member of the group page can add another member.  If you would like to be added, please let one of our leaders know.
